Ross, Euphemia (d. after 1394)

Countess of Ross. Died after September 5, 1394; interred at Fortrose Cathedral, Ross and Cromarty; daughter of William Ross, 3rd earl of Ross, and Mary Og (daughter of Angus Og, lord of the Isles); married Walter de Lesly, earl of Ross (some sources cite Andrew Leslie), around 1361; married Alexander Stewart (c. 1343–1394), 1st earl of Buchan (r. 1382–1394), known as the Wolf of Badenach (some sources cite a 1405 death date), around July 22, 1382; children: (first marriage) Alexander Leslie, 7th earl of Ross; Mary Leslie (d. 1429, who married Donald MacDonald, lord of the Isles).

The daughter of William Ross, 3rd earl of Ross, and Mary Og , Euphemia Ross married Walter de Lesly around 1361. Twenty years later, now the countess of Ross, she married Alexander Stewart, 1st earl of Buchan, who was known as the Wolf of Badenach for his excessive cruelty. Alexander had seven children out of wedlock with Margaret Atheyn . In 1390, the bishop of Moray ordered Alexander to return to his wife Euphemia. In retaliation, he led a raid on the town of Elgin and burned its cathedral.
