Praetorius, Christoph , German composer, uncle of Michael Praetorius; b. Bunzlau, Silesia, date unknown; d. Lüneburg, 1609. He matriculated at the Univ. of Wittenberg in 1551. From 1563 to 1581 he was Kantor of the Johanneum in Lüneberg. He publ. 4 vols, of sacred vocal music (1560–81) and the theoretical books Erotemata musices (Wittenberg, 1574) and Erotemata renovatae musicae (Ülzen, 1581).
