Pacchioni, Antonio Maria

Pacchioni, Antonio Maria, Italian priest and composer; b. Modena (baptized), July 5, 1654; d. there, July 15,1738. He spent his entire life in Modena, where he studied with Marzio Erculeo (singing), Agostino Bendinelli (counterpoint), and G.M. Bononcini (violin and compostion). In 1677 he became a priest at S. Carlo, where he was admitted to its mensa comune, a congregation of musician priests in 1679. From 1694 he was maestro di cappella at the Cathedral, and also vicemaestro di cappella (1699–1722) and maestro di cappella (from 1722) at the ducal court. Among his works were 3 oratorios (1677–82), masses and other liturgical pieces, and secular music.
