Nissman, Barbara
Nissman, Barbara, American pianist; b. Philadelphia, Dec. 31, 1944. She was educated at the Univ. of Mich. (B.M., 1966; M.M., 1966; D.M.A., 1969), her principal mentor being György Sandor. In 1971 she made her U.S. orch. debut as soloist with Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orch. She subsequently appeared as soloist with leading orchs. throughout the U.S. and Europe, and also gave concerts in Latin America and the Far East. She has become particularly known for her performances of contemporary music, most especially the works of Ginastera, who dedicated his third piano sonata to her.
