Lisitsyan, Pavel (Gerasimovich) (actually, Pogos Karapetovich)
Lisitsyan, Pavel (Gerasimovich) (actually, Pogos Karapetovich), Armenian baritone; b. Vladikavkaz, Nov. 6,1911. He studied in Leningrad. He sang at the Maly Theater there (1935–37); then was a member of the Armenian Opera Theater in Yerevan (1937–40); in 1940 he joined the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, remaining on its roster until 1966, but in the interim filled engagements all over Europe, in India, and in Japan; also made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. as Amonasro (March 3, 1960). From 1967 to 1973 he was on the faculty of the Yerevan Cons. He was best known for his roles in Russian operas.
