Ladurner, Josef Aloix
Ladurner, Josef Aloix, Austrian composer of Tirolean descent, brother of Ignace Antoine (François Xavier) Ladurner; b. Algund, near Merano, March 7, 1769; d. Brixen, Feb. 20, 1851. He studied with his uncle at the Benediktbeuren monastery. In 1784 he became organist in Algund, but also studied theology and philosophy at the Munich Lyceum Gregorianum and took lessons in piano, composition, and counterpoint with Josef Graetz. In 1799 he was made a priest and then served at the prince-bishop’s consistory in Brixen, where he was active as a musician; he also was active in Salzburg and Innsbruck. He wrote much sacred music as well as piano pieces and pedagogical works.
