Evans, Edwin, Sr., English writer on music, father of Edwin Evans Jr.; b. London, 1844; d. there, Dec. 21, 1923. His most important writings were Beethoven’s Nine Symphonies, fully described and analyzed (2 vols., London, 1923–24) and Historical Descriptive and Analytical Account of the Entire Works of Johannes Brahms (4 vols., London, 1912, 1933, 1935, and 1936).
