Evans, Dame Anne (b London, 1941). Eng. soprano of Welsh parentage. Sang minor roles in Geneva. Prin. sop. ENO 1968–78 (début as Mimì). WNO début Cardiff 1974 and has since sung with them many roles incl. Brünnhilde in Ring cycle (1984–5 and with WNO at CG 1986) and Isolde (1993). Bayreuth début 1983; sang Brünnhilde in Ring cycle at Bayreuth 1989–92, and has sung role in Berlin, Nice, Paris, Turin, and Zurich. Returned to ENO 1990 as Ariadne. NY Met début 1992. OBE 2000
