Evans, Edwin, Jr.
Evans, Edwin, Jr., English writer on music, son of Edwin Evans Sr.; b. London, Sept. 1, 1874; d. there, March 3, 1945. He studied for a business career, and then was engaged in telegraphy, railroads, and finance from 1889 to 1913. He then devoted himself exclusively to musical pursuits. He was music critic of the Pall Mall Gazette (1912–23) and the Daily Mail (1933–45), as well as one of the founders of the ISCM (1922). In 1938 he was elected its president, retaining this post until his death. He wrote Tchaikovsky (London, 1906; 3rd ed., rev, 1966), The Margin of Music (London, 1924), and Music and the Dance (London, 1948).
