Carmirelli, Pina (actually, Giuseppina)
Carmirelli, Pina (actually, Giuseppina) Italian violinist; b. Varzi, Jan. 23, 1914; d. Carpena, Feb. 27, 1993. She studied at the Milan Cons., graduating in 1930, and at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. She began her concert career in 1937; in 1949 she founded the Boccherini Quintet, and in 1954 the Carmirelli Quartet, with which she toured throughout Europe. From 1975 to 1986 she was concertmaster of I Musici. She was also active as a teacher in Italy and the U.S.
