Biriukov, Yuri, Russian composer; b. Moscow, April 1, 1908; d. there, Nov. 1, 1976. He studied piano with Feinberg and composition with Miaskovsky at the Moscow Cons., graduating in 1936. Among his works are 2 operas, Peasant Gentlewoman (1947) and Knight of the Golden Star (1956), a ballet, The Cosmonauts (1962), a musical, The Blue Express (1971), a Sym. on Ingush themes (1968), 3 piano concertos (1941, 1945, 1970), 24 preludes and 4 toccatas for Piano, and much music for the theater and films.
