Unemployed sad-sack Do-menico (Orlando) decides to rob a Turin bank and head north to Switzerland, but he bungles the job and winds up with businessman Tommaso (Abatantuono) as a hostage. However, Tommaso has his own money troubles—nearly bankrupt, he persuades Domenico to head south with the loot and get help from Tommaso's friend, Orfeo (Insinni), who just happens to be a cop and Tommaso's lover.
