Queen of Sweden. Born Sophia Mary Victoria on August 7, 1862, in Karlsruhe, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany; died on April 4, 1930, in Rome, Italy; buried in Stockholm, Sweden; daughter of Frederick I, grand duke of Baden, and Louise of Baden (daughter of William or Wilhelm I, emperor of Germany, and Augusta of Saxe-Weimar ); married Gustav or Gustavus V (1858–1950), king of Sweden (r. 1907–1950), on September 20, 1881; children: Gustavus VI Adolphus (1882–1973), king of Sweden (r. 1950–1973); William Bernadotte, prince of Sweden (b. 1884, who married Marie Pavlovna of Russia); Eric Gustaf Louis, duke of Vestmanland (1889–1918).
