Julianna du Guesdin (fl. 1370)

French nun. Name variations: Julienne du Guesdin. Flourished in 1370 in Brittany; never married; no children.

Julianna du Guesdin played a small but unusual role in protecting France from English aggression during the Hundred Years' War. In 1370, a small English war troop tried to take the Breton convent where she was a cloistered nun, but found that the nuns, under Julianna's leadership, would not give it up easily. The warriors tried storming over the walls but Julianna rallied her sisters to stay firm, and eventually the Englishmen were forced to give up in defeat.
