Haraszty, Eszter (c. 1910–1994)
Hungarian-American colorist, stylist, and designer of textiles. Born in Hungary around 1910; died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Malibu, California, in November 1994.
Known for her Iceland poppy motif replicated on textiles, ceramics, and stained glass, Eszter Haraszty had her own design studio in New York City. Before coming to the United States in 1946, she was a costume designer in her native Hungary; she then shifted her focus to home design. Haraszty won five gold medals from the Association of Interior Designers for her textile designs. Her work is in the permanent collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and Le Chateau Dufresne in Montreal.
