Biehl, Charlotta Dorothea (1731–1788)
Danish novelist and playwright. Name variations: Charlotte Biehl. Born 1731 in Copenhagen, Denmark; died 1788; dau. of the inspector of Charlottenborg Castle (died 1777); never married.
One of the best-known authors in 18th-century Norway and Denmark, learned German, French, Italian and Spanish despite father's refusal to allow schooling; her sentimental comedies had a strong influence on Danish theater; writings include Den kierlige Mand (1764), Moralske Fortællinger (1781–82), Brevveksling mellem fortrolige Venner (1783) and Mit ubetydelige Levnetsløb (1787).
