Raymond Pearl
1879-1940
American statistician who took his A.B. at Dartmouth College, his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, then spent two years in London studying with statistician Karl Pearson. He worked at the University of Pennsylvania and then the Maine Agricultural Experiment Station, where he used statistical methods to study the heredity and reproduction of poultry and cattle. Pearl did his most significant work at Johns Hopkins University, which included pioneer work in human population statistics and life expectancy.
