Paul Tannery
Paul Tannery
1843-1904
French mathematician and scholar who he became interested in the works of Greek mathematics and their corresponding philosophies. His use of Greek numerals in his historical research became so natural to him that he came to believe they had worthy advantages over the system in use at that time. Tannery became well known for his contributions to the 12 volume Oeuvres de Descartes (1897-1913).
