Christian Konrad Sprengel
Christian Konrad Sprengel
1750-1816
German botanist who was among the first to study methods of plant fertilization. Sprengel found that plants could be fertilized by both wind and insects, helping to elucidate methods by which plants reproduced. Through this work, not only did he help to explain how plants and insects can depend on one another, but these discoveries also helped farmers and botanists to better control plant breeding experiments.
