# t2-x2 graph

**t2-x2 graph** A time-distance graph, used in reflection seismology, in which travel times squared (*t*^{2}) are plotted as a function of the offset squared (*x*^{2}) to produce straightline segments each of which represents the reciprocal of the layer root-mean-squared velocity squared (*v*_{rms}^{2}), and the intercept represents the depth (*z*) to the reflector. (*v*_{rms}^{2}*t*^{2} = 4*z*^{2} + *x*^{2}.) See also T-D CURVE; and TIME-DISTANCE CURVE.
