Sangamonian The third (0.55–0.001 Ma) of four interglacial stages recognized in mid-continental N. America. It followed the Illinoian glacial episode and is the approximate equivalent of the Riss/Würm Interglacial of the Alps. Early warm climates and later cooling climates are represented in well-exposed pollen spectra.
