Meniscotheriidae
Meniscotheriidae (superorder Protoungulata, order Condylarthra) An extinct family of archaic ungulates, which were distributed throughout N. America and Europe during the Palaeocene and early Eocene, being common locally. Meniscotherium, typical of the family, was an animal about the size of a rabbit. It had molars of a selenodont pattern, rather similar to those of later artiodactyls. Its limbs were short and stout and appear to have ended in claws rather than hoofs.
