Menigildo de Brito Capello

1841-1917

Portuguese soldier and explorer who, in the company of Roberto Ivens, made one of the first trips across Africa from west to east. Although much of the route they followed was already known to Europeans, they made new explorations between the Zambesi and Luapula Rivers. In the process, they corrected geographic errors reported by previous explorers and investigated the basins of these rivers.
