SIDELIGHTS:

Justin Menkes is the author of Executive Intelligence: What All Great Leaders Have. In an interview on the HarperCollins Web site, Menkes described his philosophy of executive leadership, noting that the ability to prioritize is essential. However, Menkes added that good leaders "anticipate the probable effects of their actions, or recognize underlying agendas and how they might be in conflict with one another. And always, executives must be able to look critically at their own thinking and behavior and make appropriate adjustments."

Executive Intelligence supports Menkes's belief that successful business leaders possess not only good problem-solving skills but also exemplary reasoning powers. The author discusses the developing scientific knowledge about intelligence and testing for it. He then describes how to potentially assess a potential employee's leadership IQ. Writing in Business Week, Dean Foust called the book "thoughtful" and added: "Far from being a dry human resources tome, Executive Intelligence provides a stimulating overview of how the definition of intelligence has evolved over the years." Skip Corsini called the book "a significant achievement" in a review for Training. A Publishers Weekly contributor concluded: "The book's second half convincingly debunks time-honored techniques for assessing executive acumen and abilities."
