frequency domain A situation in which a signal is viewed as the sum of its constituent frequency components. A signal may be viewed in the frequency domain using a spectrum analyzer or in the time domain using an oscilloscope. A signal viewed in one domain may be converted to the other by means of the Fourier transform. See also time domain.
