Rokusō (Jap., ‘six aspects’). The six features which, according to Kegon teaching, can be found in all appearances: (i) sōsō, able to undertake a variety of functions; (ii) bessō, able to focus on one particular function; (iii) dōsō, possessing a function which is also held in general by other appearances; (iv) isō, having a distinctive feature of its own; (v) jōsō, having the power to form or construct in combination with other appearances; (vi) esō, persistence through destruction. Rokuso enʾyu is the ability of those trained in Kegon to see the six elements as being undifferentiated, whereas the untrained see these features as disparate.
