Jiaxing
Jiaxing (jyä´shĬng´) or Kashing (kä´shĬng´), city (1994 est. pop. 227,600), N Zhejiang prov., SE China, at the junction of the Grand Canal, the Huangpu River, and the Hangzhou-Shanghai RR. An important marketing center for rice and silk, it has textile mills, food-processing establishments, and cement plants. It also produces most of China's cigarette paper. The 22-mi (36-km) Hangzhou Bay bridge to the south links the city with Ningbo. The name sometimes appears as Chia-hsing.
