Arafura Sea
Arafura Sea (ärəfōō´rə), shallow part of the Pacific Ocean, between the Timor and Coral seas, separating Australia from New Guinea. It contains several islands of Indonesia. The Torres Strait to the east is a treacherous passage. See Carpentaria, Gulf of.
