Chytridiales (class Chytridiomycetes) An order of microscopic fungi which rarely form a true mycelium. Most species are aquatic saprotrophs or parasites, but some (e.g. Synchytrium) are important pathogens of terrestrial plants.

Chytridiomycetes (subdivision Mastigomycotina) A class of small to microscopic fungi which form sporangiospores that have single, posteriorly directed, whiplash flagellum. They are saprotrophs and/or parasites in aquatic or terrestrial habitats.
