Rolón, Raimundo (1903–1981)

Raimundo Rolón (b. 1903; d. 1981), a prominent Paraguayan soldier and politician. During the Chaco War (1932–1935), he served as General José Félix Estigarribia's chief of operations. Following the February Revolution (17 February 1936) he retired from the army. With the overthrow of Rafael Franco by a conservative military faction on 13 August 1937, Rolón was reinstated as the chief of staff. During 1949 he served as the ambassador to Brazil and as the minister of defense. Between 30 January and 27 February 1949 he was the provisional president of Paraguay. Rolón wrote numerous books on the Chaco War, the most important being La guerra del Chaco, campaña de 1934, 2 vols. (1962–1963).
