The Five Kingdoms scheme classifies seed plants as several distinct phyla: the Angiospermophyta (flowering plants), Coniferophyta (conifers), Ginkgophyta (ginkgo or maidenhair tree), Cycadophyta (cycads), and Gnetophyta (a group of cone-bearing desert plants).
