Baskervilles, the Hound of the in Conan Doyle's story of this name (1902), a ghostly and savage hound believed to haunt, and hunt to their deaths, the Dartmoor family of Baskerville, in revenge for an ancestor's crimes. Sherlock Holmes demonstrates that the legend is being exploited by an unrecognized descendant who hopes to inherit the family estate.
