Selsey, diocese of
Selsey, diocese of. Wilfrid, formerly of Ripon and York, created this see, conterminous with Sussex, in 681. When he returned to Hexham in 686, Selsey was united with Winchester until Selsey's revival some years later. After the Council of London (1075), the see moved to Chichester.
