Selma, Lord, Selma ★★½ 1999

Civil rights drama focuses on the youngest two participants in a 1965 votingrights march from Selma to Montgomery. Preteen Sheyann Webb (Smollett) is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s (Powell) message of nonviolent demonstration and becomes dedicated to the cause, along with her best friend Rachel Nelson (Peyton). Things come to a climax with the March 7th march to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, a day that became known as “Bloody Sunday” when state troopers attacked the demonstrators.
