Grimond, Jo (Joseph), Baron (1913–93) British politician, Liberal Party leader (1956–67). Grimond became a member of Parliament in 1950. He modernized the Liberal Party and proposed a political realignment, which captured new supporters. He opposed nuclear weapons and favoured Britain's entry into the European Community. After the forced resignation of Jeremy Thorpe (1976), Grimond became caretaker leader of the Party until David Steel took over.
