galaxy cluster Group of associated galaxies, consisting of several separate systems moving together through space. Our Galaxy belongs to the Local Group of galaxies, which includes the Andromeda Galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds. A concentration of galaxy clusters is called a galaxy supercluster.
