Washington Metropolitan Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist students with their college admission, scholarship seminars, college counseling, academic support and retention services, internships and career development workshops. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be African American; must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, or is in the top twenty-five percent of his or her senior class; must be a citizen or a legal permanent resident of the United States, and resides in the Washington metropolitan area; must be a prospective graduating senior from an accredited public, private, or parochial school in the metropolitan area; must also be entering an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking freshmen in the upcoming year; must demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities; must exhibit financial need. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on scholastic attainment; success in an extracurricular activities; character, commitment, seriousness of purpose and determination to excel in his or her chosen field; selection will also be judged based on the content and quality of their nomination materials.

Funds Avail.: Maximum amount of $5,000. To Apply: Applicants must fill out the online application form; submit an official recommendation from a teacher or counselor who has personal knowledge of the student's abilities and must be signed by the principal; submit an official transcript of records.
