Junior Firefighter Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide resources on how to establish a program, a network for connecting with other program, and to increase recruitment and retention to junior firefighters. Focus: Fires and fire prevention. Qualif.: Applicant must be a high school senior, or a high school graduate within the past three years who is enrolled or will be enrolled in the following school year at an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning, a trade school or a certification program; be a pat or current junior firefighter in a department that is registered with the NVFC National Junior Firefighter Program. Applicants must also have proven to be an active and vital member of a junior firefighter program for at least one year and currently be active either as a junior firefighter or in some other capacity. Applicants must also have demonstrated intent to pursue emergency services. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the objective judgment of the scholarship committee as to which candidates demonstrate the greatest potential for future involvement in emergency services as exhibited by their past emergency service record.

Funds Avail.: $5,000. Number Awarded: 10. To Apply: Applicants must complete the scholarship application form; must submit an official transcript from the institution most recently attended; complete a 250-word essay outlining how being a junior firefighter has impacted the applicant's life, how the scholarship will further field of study, and plans for the future involvement in emergency services; must submit two letters of recommendation; recent photo to be used for NVFC newsletter, website if selected; fire department must submit a 250-word essay outlining its current junior firefighter program and how a $5,000 grant would benefit the department.
