NSS Sara Corrie Memorial Grants (All/Grant)

Purpose: TO support cave exploration in the U.S territories. Focus: Cave studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be NSS members. Criteria: Selection is based on the application materials submitted.

Funds Avail.: $250. To Apply: Applicants must send a letter to the Chairman of the U.S Exploration Committee explaining the importance and usage of the grant as well as the amount needed. Contact: Thomas Shifflett, Committee Chairman, 540-554-2314.

NSS Conservation Grants (All/Grant)

Purpose: To support a cave conservation-linked research. Focus: Cave studies. Qualif.: Open to all individuals conducting a cave conservation-linked research, including student projects. Criteria: Selection is based on merit, impact of research and the qualifications of the applicant.

NSS Education Grants (All/Grant)

Purpose: To promote cave and karst education. Focus: Cave studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a private individual or organization. Criteria: Awards are given based on merit.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Application form is available at the website. Applicants must submit the completed application form and send it electronically in MS Word or PDF file to [email protected]. Deadline: March and September. Ralph W. Stone Graduate Fellowships (Graduate/Grant)

Purpose: To support cave-related thesis research. Focus: Cave studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be NSS members currently pursuing graduate studies. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the committee’s review of submitted proposals.

Funds Avail.: $1,700. To Apply: Applicants must send a proposal which includes a project description; a resume with NSS number; a transcript; two letters of recommendation (one from the thesis advisor); a budget and its justification. Send proposals electronically in Word or Adobe Acrobat files to [email protected]. Deadline: March 25. Contact: Chair, NSS Research Advisory Committee, [email protected].

Young Investigator Grants (Undergraduate/Grant)

Purpose: To support research done by younger members of the society. Focus: Cave studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a NSS member under 22 years old. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the committee’s review of submitted proposals proposal.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: Applicants must send an application including a narrative (four pages, double-spaced) about the motivation of the study, objectives and methodology, and a brief discussion of related literature. The application must also include a detailed budget; transcript; a brief statement of experience and interest (maximum of 250 words); and two letters of recommendation. Submit applications electronically (Word or .pdf files) to the Chair of the NSS Research Advisory Committee, [email protected]. Deadline: February 1.
