Congressional Research Awards (Graduate/Award/Prize)

Purpose: To fund research on congressional leadership and related studies about the U.S. Congress. Focus:

Government. Qualif.: Applicants must have a serious interest in studying the Congress; must be political scientists, historians, biographers, scholars of public administration or American studies, and journalists; must be graduate students who have successfully defended their dissertation prospectus to apply and awards a significant portion of the funds for dissertation research; must be U.S. citizens who reside in the United States. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the project design; plan of work; dissemination; applicant’s qualifications; relationship of the project to the Centers Program goals and to current work in the field; and appropriateness of the project request for the requirements.

Funds Avail.: $30,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit five copies of application summary sheet listing the name and contact information not exceeding 100-words; a description of the project goals, methods, and intended results, demonstrating clearly its importance to the award program priorities; A vitae including a list of publications; Original and five copies of a letter of reference from the person directing their dissertation work; a proposal letter from the responsible official stipulating that no indirect or overhead costs will be charged against the grant. Ray and Kathy LaHood Scholarships for the Study of American Government (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for Bradley University juniors who are majoring in a discipline related to The Dirk-sen Center’s purpose and interest or in subjects related to the study of Federal Government. Focus: Government. Qualif.: Applicants must be juniors in good standing entering their senior year of study in a field related to the study of the U.S. government; must be attending Bradley University; must have a grade point average (on a four-point scale) of at least 3.0 overall and 3.75 in their major; must agree to write a 250-word evaluation of the impact of their scholarship before the end of their senior year; and must agree to meet with Ray or Kathy LaHood during the second semester of their senior year. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on scholastic records.
