Trousseau's sign (troo-sohz) n. spasmodic contractions of muscles, especially the muscles of mastication, in response to nerve stimulation (e.g. by tapping). It is a characteristic sign of hypocalcaemia (see tetany). [ A. Trousseau (1801–67), French physician]
