SIDELIGHTS:

A graphic designer by day, Michelle Rowen is also the author of novels featuring the paranormal. In her first book, Bitten & Smitten, Sarah Dearly goes out on a blind date with a man who turns out to be a vampire. When the man bites Sara on the neck, she, too, becomes a vampire and soon is being hunted by vampire killers. Fortunately, she meets Thierry de Bennicoeur, a suicidal but powerful vampire who teaches Sarah how to use her new powers and survive in the human world. As the novel progresses, Thierry soon begins to gain the will to live as he finds himself falling in love with Sarah. A Publishers Weekly contributor noted that the author "perfectly balances suspense and wit." Nina C. Davis, writing in Booklist, called Rowen a "fresh voice to the genre" and referred to the novel as "frothy chick-lit wrapped around a grittier reality." Rowen's second novel, Angel with Attitude, tells the story of fallen angel Valerie Grace who is trying to deal with her new life on earth, which includes a human friend turned into a rat by a witch, and a demon who is tempting her into a life that leads to damnation.
