Rowen, Ruth Halle
Rowen, Ruth Halle , American music educator; b. N.Y., April 5, 1918. She studied at Barnard Coll. (B.A., 1939) and with Mitchell, Lang, Hertzmann, and Moore at Columbia Univ. (M.A., 1941; Ph.D., 1948). She was director of the education dept. of Carl Fischer, Inc. (1954–63), then taught at the City Coll. of N.Y. (1963–67) and at the graduate school of the City Univ. of N.Y. (from 1967). She wrote Early Chamber Music (N.Y, 1949; new ed., 1974) and Music through Sources and Documents (Englewood Cliffs, N.J., 1978).
