OBITUARY NOTICE—

See index for CA sketch: Born July 13, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY; died of complications from Parkinson's disease, May 28, 2008, in Los Angeles, CA. Television and film producer, member of production crew, and author. Justman was the coauthor of the book Inside Star Trek: The Real Story (1996) and the video of the same title that was released in 1998. He was an integral part of the original television series from its inception in 1966. As an associate producer of Star Trek, Justman had a hand in many of the crew activities, from set design to cast selection, visual effects, and script development. He stayed with the series for its entire three-year run, then rejoined the franchise in 1987 for one year as the supervising producer of the sequel Star Trek: The Next Generation. Justman was no newcomer to the business in 1966. He had worked at his family's studio, the Motion Picture Center, beginning in 1950. There he gained experience as a production assistant, assistant director, and associate producer of dozens of films and hundreds of television episodes. After Star Trek was cancelled in 1969 Justman turned to other television series, such as Dark Mansions, MacGruder and Loud, The Man from Atlantis, and Then Came Bronson. The original Star Trek lasted only a few years, but the popular program attracted generations of loyal fans and continued to be broadcast in reruns for decades. It also spawned numerous television specials and books devoted to the franchise, including the work coauthored by Justman.
