During the early 1990s Hudgins and her husband traveled to far eastern Russia and Siberia as part of the University of Maryland University College's international program. Her memoirs are collected in The Other Side of Russia: A Slice of Life in Siberia and the Russian Far East. Instead of examining "only the pleasures and inconveniences of daily life, Hudgins mingles her insights with useful explanations about the history and development of these regions," noted Library Journal contributor Olga B.
