Browne, Harry 1933-2006

OBITUARY NOTICE—

See index for CA sketch: Born June 17, 1933, in New York, NY; died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, March 1, 2006, in Franklin, TN. Businessman and author. Though he never held elected office, Browne twice ran for president of the United States under the Libertarian ticket and wrote popular books about politics and business. Starting his career in 1958 as a salesman and account executive in Los Angeles, California, Browne held a number of jobs over the years. Among these were owner, writer, and editor of American Way Features in Los Angelesin the early 1960s and salesman for the investment firm Economic Research Counselors from 1967 to 1970. He later became a financial consultant and political analyst, including as senior political analyst for the Free Market News Network and consultant to Permanent Portfolio. He had also served as director of public policy for DownsizeDC.org. Browne published several books over the years, including How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World (1973), New Profits from the Monetary Crisis (1978), Why Government Doesn't Work (1995),The Great Libertarian Offer (2000), and A to Z: 872 Libertarian Soundbites You Can Use Right Now (2004).
