Brown, William
Brown, William, flute player and composer who settled in America in the middle of the 18th century. He gave a concert on the flute in Baltimore on Jan. 30, 1784, and then went to Philadelphia, where he participated in numerous benefit concerts. In 1785 he established a series of Subscription Concerts in N.Y. and Philadelphia (with Alexander Reinagle and Henri Capron). He composed 3 Rondos for the Pianoforte or Harpsichord (dedicated to Francis Hopkinson). He was probably a German; may be identical with Wilhelm Braun of Kas-sel.
