Ternina [Trnina], Milka (b Vesišće, 1863; d Zagreb, 1941). Croatian soprano. Opera début while student at Zagreb, 1882 (Amelia in Un ballo in maschera). Sang opera at Leipzig 1883–4; Graz 1884–6; Bremen 1886–9; Munich 1890–9. London début 1895; CG début 1898 singing regularly to 1906; Amer. début (Boston) 1896 (with Damrosch's German Opera Co.); NY Met 1900–4; Bayreuth 1899, but banned from Bayreuth after 1903 when she sang in ‘pirate’ Parsifal in NY. One of greatest singers of her day and type who excelled in Wagnerian roles. Forced by illness to retire, 1906. Taught at Inst. of Mus. Art, NY.
