Soto de Langa, Francisco

Soto de Langa, Francisco, Spanish singer, music editor, and composer; b. Langa, Soria province, 1534; d. Rome, Sept. 25, 1619. He spent most of his life in Rome, where he was a member of the Papal Choir (1562–1611); also was a member of the oratory of St. Filippo Neri (1566–75). In 1575 he became a priest and went to S. Maria in Vallicella. In 1590 he served as interim maestro di cappella of the Papal Choir in Rome. He has been credited with compiling 5 significant vols, of laude spirituale (Rome, 1583–98), which includes several of his own pieces.
