Nielsen, Ludvig
Nielsen, Ludvig, Norwegian organist, conductor, and composer; b. Borge in stfold, Feb. 3, 1906. He studied with Sandvold and Lange at the Oslo Cons., then with Straube, Raphael, and Hochkofler at the Leipzig Cons. (1931–32) and with Steenberg and Walle-Hansen in Oslo. He was organist at the Hvik Church, Baerum, Akershus (1924–32), and organist and choirmaster at Trondheim Cathedral (1935–76); also taught at the Oslo Cons. (1934–35) and the Trondheim Music School (from 1942). He distinguished himself primarily as a composer of sacred music. Among his organ works are a Concerto for Organ and Strings (1965), chorales, fugues, fantasies, and other pieces; his choral works include a Te Deum (1944–45), the oratorio Draumkvedet (1962), and motets.
